‘A Church Enslaved: A Spirituality of Racial Reconciliation” Workshop with the Rev. Dr. Michael J. Battle

Rev. Dr. Michael J. Battle will give a workshop on “The Church Enslaved: A Spirituality of Racial Reconciliation” at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Redeemer on February 11, 2012. The focus will be on racial reconciliation in our churches and in our lives. The Rev. Dr. Michael J. Battle is a well-known writer, speaker and retreat leader, his ministry covers the globe and focuses on Christian non-violence, human spirituality, and African Church studies. Dr. Battle lived in residence with Archbishop Desmond Tutu in South Africa for two years, and was ordained a priest by him. He is the co-author with Tony Campolo of “The Church Enslaved: A Spirituality of Racial Reconciliation” (2005), and author of “Black Battle, White Knight”: the Authorized Biography of Malcolm Boyd” (2011), “Ubuntu: I in You and You in Me: (2009), Black Church in America: African American Christian Spirituality” (2006), “Practicing Reconciliation in a Violent World” (2005) “Blessed are the Peacemakers: A Christian Spirituality of Nonviolence “(2004), “The Wisdom of Desmond Tutu” (1999) and “Reconciliation: The Ubuntu Theology of Desmond Tutu” (1997). Dr. Battle will conduct the workshop on Saturday, February 11th, 2012 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on his book “The Church Enslaved”. Cost is $10.00 and includes lunch. The Episcopal Church of the Holy Redeemer, Denver , as part of its honoring African American History month is sponsoring a special presentation entitled of Diversity and Inclusion: A Common Thread Woven in Our Lives by Valencia Faye Wilson Tate. The presentation will talk about the value and importance of diversity and inclusion in a variety of areas of our lives. Ms. Wilson Tate brings a wealth of experience from the corporate world and the community to her presentation. Ms. Wilson Tate is the Vice President and Director for Global Diversity and Inclusion at CH2m Hill, a global engineering consulting firm. Ms. Wilson Tate serves on the National Board of Directors for the Human Rights Campaign, Board of Directors for The Colorado March of Dimes, The Denver District Court Child Care Center, Colorado Bright Beginnings, The Metro Denver Chamber Leadership Foundation, The Rocky Mountain Minority Supplier Development Council and The Colorado Association of Black Professional Engineers and Scientists Advisory Board.
